SAB World of Beer opened in 1995, to celebrate a century of South African beer-brewing. It aims to recreate the past, and evoke the glory of the country's legacy of beer and breweries.
Visiting the World of Beer involves taking a tour of the museum, which has been tailored to give visitors a 'seamless glimpse into the history and culture of beer'. The tour involves a welcome and talk from Charles Glass, the brew-master behind 'Castle Lager'. This is augmented by a visit to the 'Tap Room', whereby visitors are provided with two complimentary beers, which can be enjoyed overlooking the stunning views of the Newtown District.
There are also a number of exhibitions that illustrate the history and legacy of beer-production in South Africa.
Pub lunches are also served, as well as many types of beer at the museum's bar. The World of Beer is also a venue for business conferences and functions.
